Ce travail repose sur des mesures de stock de carbone effectuées sur 15 sites allant du Nord du Sénégal (département de Dagana) au Sud Est (Région de Tambacounda). Dans un premier temps, une comparaison entre les stocks de carbone du sol sous houppier et hors houppier des arbres ont été effectués.

CaSSECS: Second meeting of the Steering Committee

Workshops on restoration options for degraded areas of the Great Green Wall - OHMi / PPZS / CaSSECS

On 7 and 8 June 2022, a group of scientists met to create a conceptual model of the pastoral ecosystem according to the restoration of degraded land. This model was then tested with stakeholders in the commune of Tessékéré (Linguère department, Louga region) on 9 and 10 June 2022, during a focus group to identify the impact of GMV activities on this territory.

Design and dissemination of innovations in the Sahel

From 10 to 12 May 2022, a group of nine projects implemented in West Africa within the framework of the DeSIRA initiative - Development Smart Innovation through Research in Agriculture - met at the Saly Hotel in the city of Mbour (Senegal) for a regional exchange workshop organised within the framework of the DISSEM-INN project - Dissemination of Innovations in the Sahel Zone.

COP15 desertification: CaSSECS presents its first results on the CSFD stand

From 9 to 20 May 2022, the fifteenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) was held in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. This is the first COP dedicated to desertification and drought in Africa. It was an opportunity for the CASSECS project to present its first results on the capacity of Sahelian pastoral livestock to contribute to the ecological restoration of rangelands through innovation in carbon cycle management.

Workshop on Assessment and Monitoring of Plant Biomass in Sahelian Countries

Spontaneous vegetation, both herbaceous and woody, is an essential resource for populations in Sahelian countries. The correct estimation of its biomass is important, whether for land reclamation (agro/sylvo/pastoralism), the evaluation of the carbon balance or the understanding of the functioning of ecosystems, the vitality of which guarantees the ecosystem services provided.

Second annual meeting of CaSSECS from 14 to 17 March 2022 in Bobo Dioulasso

The Carbon Sequestration and Greenhouse Gas Emissions in the (Agro)Silvopastoral Ecosystems of the Sahelian States of CILSS (CaSSECS) project started its second annual meeting in Bobo Dioulasso (Burkina Faso) on Monday, 14 March 2022, for four days, in person and by videoconference.

Ecological research: two CaSSECS researchers update two-century-old data

Two researchers involved in the CASSECS project, Morgane Dendoncker (UCLouvain) and Samantha Bazan (CIRAD), measured functional traits on historical herbarium plates of Sahelian trees and on samples collected this summer in Senegal.
